Retos de la fuerza laboral de enfermería durante la pandemia por el COVID 19

Objetivo: describir y analizar los retos que enfrentó la enfermería al cuidar sus pacientes durante la pandemia por el COVID 19 durante los años 2020-2022. Método: Revisión narrativa mediante el motor de búsqueda PubMed, usando las palabras clave en inglés: “nurse” “experience” “care” “COVID 19”, durante el periodo del año 2020-2022. La búsqueda arrojó 68 artículos de los cuales 8 fueron seleccionados para el análisis. Resultados: hubo un amplio espectro de experiencias difíciles de las enfermeras, tales como miedo al contagio, preocupación por propagar la infección, ansiedad ante la alta mortalidad de los pacientes e incertidumbre por el futuro. Sin embargo, resaltaron también el sentido del deber, orgullo profesional, y percepción de que el cuidado brindado era un acto altruista y heroico que lo llenaba de sentimientos de autorrealización profesional. Conclusión: La gestión institucional hospitalaria fue deficiente y no estuvo preparada ante la alta demanda de pacientes y fallecidos que enfrentaron durante la pandemia. Recursos materiales y humanos escasearon, y la incertidumbre ante un virus desconocido con tratamiento inexistente, generó mucho temor y ansiedad en las enfermeras, quienes, a pesar de todo este panorama nefasto, continuaron cuidando sus pacientes aferradas a su sentido del deber profesional.
